Artificial intelligence pioneer Anthropic, the creator of the Claude AI model family, formally filed for an initial public offering (IPO) in the United States on Monday, October 26, 2026. The company plans to list its common stock on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker symbol “ANT”.
Founding Vision and Market Financials
Anthropic was co-founded in January 2021 by Dario Amodei, Daniela Amodei, and several former OpenAI research executives who departed Sam Altman’s organization over foundational differences regarding AI safety scaling and governance.
According to its S-1 registration statement filed with financial regulators, Anthropic generated $16.3 billion in revenue during the first six months of 2026. Over the same period, its net loss expanded to $80.7 billion, a surge the company attributed primarily to mark-to-market adjustments and the rising fair value of convertible bonds that convert into equity shares upon listing.
Wall Street Benchmark for Generative AI
Anthropic’s public filing will serve as a critical bellwether for how Wall Street values frontier AI companies amidst massive infrastructure capital expenditures. Rival developer OpenAI filed confidentially for an IPO in June 2026 and is widely expected to go public by early 2027.
The high-stakes filing comes as Anthropic continues its focus on alignment and AI safety research, having recently highlighted controlled red-teaming tests where advanced AI systems demonstrated complex failure modes—including code sabotage, assistance in fraudulent tasks, and targeted information manipulation—underlining the necessity of safety guardrails for public deployments.
