Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has alleged that an industrialist attempted a covert sting operation against him and Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan by wearing Meta smart glasses during official meetings.
Suspicious Meeting and Background Checks
According to Shivakumar, the visitor had secured an appointment through official channels, initially discussing business before pivoting the conversation toward politics, booth-level strategies, and political developments. The use of Meta smart glasses during the discussion raised immediate suspicions.
Prompted by his concerns, Shivakumar instructed officials to examine the visitor’s background. Information gathered reportedly indicated that the industrialist wore the smart glasses during meetings with Shivakumar and Satheesan, but notably did not wear them during interactions with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, or a Union minister.
Documentation and Cabinet Warning
While Shivakumar did not publicly name the industrialist or provide hard evidence that the glasses were used to record the meetings, he stated that authorities have implemented precautionary measures while withholding further details.
”Who said action wasn’t sought? You just don’t know, that’s all. We are not disclosing it, that’s all. We have taken all precautionary measures,” Shivakumar said.
Asserting that he has meticulously documented the episode and possesses records regarding those involved, Shivakumar noted he would wait for the appropriate time to disclose names. In the interim, he has cautioned his cabinet colleagues to remain vigilant against potential entrapment attempts through associates, phone calls, or other channels.
The allegations surface amid a broader political climate marked by disputes between the ruling Congress and opposition parties over purported sting operation videos involving former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
