The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated on Friday that India and China continue to utilize established diplomatic and military channels to resolve pending issues and prevent miscalculations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Addressing a press briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that border situations become “disturbed from time to time when Chinese forces deviate from established patrolling patterns”. Jaiswal’s remarks came in response to inquiries regarding recent statements made by Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) chief Shatrujeet Kapur concerning an ongoing stand-off in Arunachal Pradesh.
Row Over ITBP Chief’s Disclosed Remarks
The controversy erupted after ITBP Director General Shatrujeet Kapur purportedly stated during a troop felicitation ceremony in Alwar, Rajasthan, that the elite Shaurya platoon was successfully handling a “face-off in Arunachal Pradesh” at different locations. Although the central force initially released footage of the address on social media late Thursday night, the video was subsequently deleted.
Reports indicate that a stand-off with Chinese troops has persisted in the remote Taksin area of Upper Subansiri district since July. The remarks triggered a political reaction, with Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accusing the government of remaining “silent on this grave issue”.
Emphasis on Peace and Bilateral Stability
Reiterating New Delhi’s official stance, Jaiswal emphasized that maintaining peace and tranquility along the border regions is critical for the overall development of bilateral relations. He added that both nations have agreed to explore ways to improve mutual understanding of the LAC in appropriate sectors to ensure better border management.
