A handwritten note written on tissue paper warning of an explosive device at a boarding gate was discovered inside a women’s restroom at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Friday.
The discovery prompted security agencies to launch a thorough search across the premises.
The note, found by a member of the airport’s cleaning staff, specifically claimed that a bomb had been placed near Boarding Gate Number 30. The staff member immediately alerted authorities, after which Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel and the bomb disposal squad cordoned off the area around Gate 30 to conduct a systematic sweep.
Officials confirmed that no suspicious objects or explosives were recovered during the search. Flight operations remained completely unaffected and continued as scheduled throughout the operation.
An officer from the Bidhannagar City Police stated that investigators are currently questioning the cleaning staff member and scanning surrounding CCTV footage to identify the person who left the tissue note.
The incident comes just two weeks after the Kolkata airport received a hoax bomb threat via email on October 8, which similarly prompted heightened security checks across the terminal.
