Fear has gripped the village of Kapasi under the Sinapali block in Nuapada district following a horrifying stray dog attack that left a minor boy critically injured.
The victim, identified as Lucky Jagat, was playing near his home on Tuesday morning when an aggressive pack of 7 to 8 stray dogs suddenly surrounded and viciously mauled him. Hearing his desperate cries, panicked locals rushed to the scene, drove the dogs away, and rescued the child.
Lucky was immediately rushed to the Sinapali Community Health Centre (CHC). Due to the severity of his injuries, he was first referred to the Bhawanipatna Hospital and later shifted to Raipur for advanced medical treatment, where his condition remains critical.
A Community Living in Constant Fear
The incident has laid bare a growing crisis in Kapasi village, where packs consisting of over 10 stray dogs roam freely. Residents report that these animals frequently target everything from livestock to humans. Villagers are now terrified to step outside, walking in constant fear even along routine paths to the nearby river for bathing and daily chores.
While many residents narrowly escape these aggressive encounters, others are falling victim to frequent assaults.
Administration Under Fire
Despite the escalating danger, locals allege that the local panchayat and block administration have remained completely passive, drawing intense public anger and widespread criticism. Community members are now urgently appealing to district authorities and the concerned departments to intervene immediately, rein in the stray population, and take preventive measures before another tragedy strikes.
