In a landmark move to improve healthcare access in Odisha, the Ayushman Bharat Yojana will be officially launched at the iconic Bali Jatra ground in Cuttack. Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda will preside over the event, joined by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and other Union Ministers.
The announcement was made by Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling following a detailed review meeting on Saturday.
Major Boost for Public Health in Odisha
The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), a flagship initiative by the Government of India, aims to provide health insurance to economically weaker families, offering cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals. In Odisha, the scheme is expected to benefit around 3.52 crore people.
Health Minister Mahaling highlighted the strategic importance of launching the scheme from the Bali Jatra grounds, a culturally significant site, to ensure widespread outreach. He emphasized the state’s readiness to roll out the programme efficiently.

The initiative has generated a wave of optimism, especially among low-income families who will receive substantial support for medical emergencies without financial stress. The cashless facility under the scheme is seen as a game-changer in promoting affordable and inclusive healthcare.
