The Indian film industry and fans worldwide are in deep mourning following the passing of Manoj Kumar, affectionately known as “Bharat Kumar,” at the age of 87.

The veteran actor, director, and writer, whose career spanned decades of groundbreaking, patriotic films, breathed his last on April 4, 2025, at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, Mumbai.

Kumar’s final rites took place on April 5, where he was laid to rest with full state honors. His mortal remains, draped in the Indian tricolour, were a poignant reminder of his contributions not only to Indian cinema but also to the national ethos. Family members, including his son Kunal Goswami, along with dignitaries and film industry stalwarts, paid their respects at Mumbai’s Pawan Hans crematorium.

Known for masterpieces like Shaheed, Upkar, and Kranti, Kumar’s work inspired national pride and resonated across generations. Tributes poured in from President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and countless fans, hailing his legacy as a pioneer of patriotic storytelling.

Awarded the Padma Shri and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Manoj Kumar leaves behind a legacy that continues to inspire filmmakers, actors, and cinephiles alike. His enduring influence in portraying India’s cultural heritage through cinema will forever remain unmatched.
