Dr Sanghamitra Pati, Additional Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Director of ICMR–National Institute of Health Research (ICMR-NIHR), Bhubaneswar, has achieved a remarkable global distinction.

She has been ranked No. 1 among all 22 ICMR scientists featured in the prestigious Stanford University–Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists list for the single year 2025–2026—maintaining her presence in this elite global assessment for two consecutive years (2024–25 and 2025–26).

The Stanford University–Elsevier database is globally renowned for evaluating research impact using Scopus citation data. It utilises a sophisticated composite citation indicator (the c-score) that accounts for citations, the h-index, co-authorship, and authorship position across 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields.

A Legacy of Impactful Research

Dr Pati secured an impressive global rank of 19,407, with Clinical Medicine as her primary field and Microbiology as her subfield. Her credentials speak volumes about her sustained academic influence: a subfield rank of 357 in Microbiology, a reported-period H-index of 21, an overall career H-index of 56, and over 50,000 career citations.

This recognition underscores her steadfast commitment to advancing biomedical research, evidence-based interventions, and critical public health priorities both in India and globally. Under her visionary leadership, ICMR-NIHR Bhubaneswar continues to bridge the gap between rigorous scientific inquiry and regional health solutions.

Double Pride for ICMR-NIHR Bhubaneswar

Adding further distinction to the institute, Dr Chita Ranjan Sahoo, a postdoctoral fellow at ICMR-NIHR Bhubaneswar, has also earned a coveted spot on the World’s Top 2% Scientists list. Focusing on Chemistry with Pharmacology as his subfield, Dr Sahoo’s inclusion highlights the thriving research environment and the immense potential of emerging scientists at the institute.

About ICMR-NIHR, Bhubaneswar

Established in 1981 under the 6th Five-Year Plan, ICMR-National Institute of Health Research in Bhubaneswar has spent over three decades tackling communicable and non-communicable diseases. From partnering with the Odisha State Health Department to address regional health challenges to playing a pivotal role in managing the COVID-19 pandemic, the centre remains a cornerstone of India’s biomedical research excellence.

The stellar achievements of Dr Pati and Dr Sahoo serve as a powerful beacon of inspiration for young researchers across the nation, reaffirming that sustained dedication to science can solve persistent and emerging health challenges.
