TVS Succession Row Deepens: Mallika Srinivasan and Lakshmi Venu Clarify No Economic Settlement Reached Over Family Wealth

The high-profile succession and asset division dispute within the family of industrialist Venu Srinivasan—chairman emeritus of TVS Motor Company and TVS Holdings—has escalated.

In a joint statement, his wife, Mallika Srinivasan, and daughter, Lakshmi Venu, clarified that no final economic settlement or equitable division of business assets has been concluded to resolve ongoing differences.

Core of the Disagreement

The discord centers around the fair recognition and allocation of economic ownership within the business entities managed by the Venu Srinivasan branch, rather than managerial control or board positions.

While the broader 115-year-old TVS Group underwent a structured family partition in 2020 to distribute companies among different branches of founder T. Sundaram Iyengar’s lineage, Mallika Srinivasan and Lakshmi Venu emphasized that a comparable transparent process has not taken place internally within their immediate branch.

The differences came into sharper focus following disclosures last April regarding TVS Holdings naming Sudarshan Venu—Venu Srinivasan’s son and managing director of TVS Motor Company—as a significant beneficial owner.

Key Highlights from the Joint Statement

Seeking to correct misleading media impressions, the joint statement issued on Monday stressed:

  • No Internal Economic Accord: The 2020 partition of the larger TVS conglomerate involved formal multi-stakeholder consent, but no such transparent valuation, discussion, or mutual agreement has occurred regarding asset distribution within the Venu Srinivasan family.
  • Separation of TAFE: The statement clarified that Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE), where Mallika Srinivasan holds a longstanding leadership and custodial role, belongs to a separate family business group and has no bearing on the internal settlement of the Venu Srinivasan household.
  • Call for Transparency: The signatories reiterated that portraying existing corporate arrangements as an equitable division of family wealth is fundamentally inaccurate as negotiations remain unresolved.

The century-old conglomerate controls major automotive and financial entities, including TVS Holdings, TVS Motor Company, TVS Credit, and Sundaram-Clayton Ltd., with the family yet to publicly announce a formal agreement addressing the asset distribution.
