In a significant move to address the persistent flooding of the Dhanua River, the Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha, Smt. Pravati Parida chaired a meeting at the Lok Seva Bhavan today.

The focus was on devising a sustainable solution to the yearly flood disaster that devastates agriculture and livelihoods in the Nimapada and nearby regions.

During the meeting, Smt. Parida highlighted the grave impact of the floods, which inundate vast stretches of farmland, displacing thousands and disrupting lives annually.

Officials, including Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner Smt. Anu Garg and Dr. Chandra Sekhar Padhi of the Water Resources Department deliberated on creating an actionable plan to mitigate these damages.

The meeting outlined steps to implement an action plan before the monsoon arrives, emphasizing the urgency to secure lives and livelihoods.

The roadmap includes enhanced water drainage mechanisms and protective measures for flood-prone areas.

The Deputy Chief Minister assured the timely execution of the plans to safeguard the residents of Nimapada and adjacent regions.

The frequent flooding caused by the overflow of the Dhanua River, which flows through Balipatna and Balianta before affecting the Puri district, has been a perennial issue.

The proposed roadmap aims to bring relief to the affected regions and establish a robust preventive framework for the future.
