Pahal Police arrested a 25-year-old local shopkeeper after a row over high grocery prices escalated into a violent assault, leaving an insurance company employee injured by a glass cold drink bottle.
According to police, complainant Debasish Sahoo and accused Baranya Abhishek Mohanty alias Bapu both reside in rented accommodations in the Bharat Villa area under Pahal police jurisdiction, where Mohanty operates a grocery shop named ‘Unitech Commercial’.
The incident occurred on Oct 9 around 10:45 PM near Maa Kharakhai Grocery Store in Hanspal, when Sahoo went there to buy provisions.
Mohanty confronted Sahoo, questioning why he had stopped purchasing goods from his shop. When Sahoo explained that Mohanty’s store charged higher prices, a heated verbal argument ensued, escalating into a physical scuffle.
Enraged, Mohanty struck Sahoo on the head with a glass cold drink bottle, causing severe head injuries and profuse bleeding.
Following an FIR registered by the victim, Pahal police apprehended Mohanty from his grocery store on Sunday morning. He was interrogated, formally arrested, and produced before a local court in the afternoon.
