Tension escalated at Utkal University campus today after two rival student groups engaged in a tense face-off triggered by allegations circulated on social media.
According to sources, heated verbal exchanges broke out online before spilling into the physical campus. The situation quickly intensified as students gathered in large numbers near the Ladies’ Hostel and the Commerce Block, leading to scuffles with the police forces attempting to maintain order.
The clash comes at a crucial juncture as the campus gears up for the upcoming Student Elections scheduled for October 15. Political temperatures have been running high following delays in releasing the candidate lists, scrutiny, and the announcement of final nominations.
In response to the unrest, campus authorities and local police rushed to the scene to stabilise the situation. Security has been significantly reinforced across key areas of the university, and strict surveillance is currently underway to prevent any further escalation.
University administration has appealed to the students to remain calm and resolve their differences through peaceful dialogue. Authorities emphasised that maintaining order and peace is vital for conducting fair and safe campus elections.
