The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) inaugurated a special Miyawaki Plantation Programme at the Barmunda New Bus Stand area in Ward No. 49.
Organized under the national campaign Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 with the moving theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” the initiative encourages citizens and civic bodies alike to plant trees as a tribute to motherhood while contributing to environmental restoration.
The ceremonial event witnessed prominent leadership and active participation from key civic and forest authorities. The Hon’ble Mayor and Hon’ble Deputy Mayor led the drive alongside the Additional Commissioner, Zonal Deputy Commissioner, Standing Committee Chairperson, local Corporators, Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioners, Deputy Ranger of the Chandaka Division, and members of Team BMC.
By adopting the innovative Miyawaki forest methodology—a dense, multi-layered planting technique known for accelerating tree growth and restoring native biodiversity—BMC aims to transform the bustling transit zone of Barmunda into a thriving green oasis.
“Urban sustainability requires action at every level,” noted officials during the inauguration. “Through ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,’ we are blending emotional reverence with ecological action to ensure Bhubaneswar remains healthy, resilient, and green for generations to come.”
The Miyawaki forest project at Barmunda is part of BMC’s broader agenda to mitigate urban heat, improve air quality, and create vibrant bio-shields across key transit hubs and residential zones, reinforcing Bhubaneswar’s standing as one of India’s leading sustainable cities.
