The Rourkela Half Marathon 2026 flagged off on Saturday as part of SAIL Foundation Day celebrations, drawing nearly 5,000 participants.

The event, organised by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), brought together athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and citizens from diverse backgrounds, showcasing the city’s growing commitment to health, fitness, and community bonding.

Union Minister Jual Oram, Rourkela MLA Sarada Prasad Nayak, Sundergarh Collector Dr Subhankar Mohapatra, Western Range DIG Brijesh Rai, and RSP Director In-Charge Alok Verma graced the inaugural ceremony. The dignitaries encouraged runners and praised RSP’s initiative in promoting a healthy lifestyle and sporting culture in the steel city.

Addressing the gathering, the chief guests highlighted the importance of physical fitness, discipline, and collective participation. They noted that marathons play a vital role in spreading awareness about health and wellness among the masses. The event also reflected RSP’s commitment to social responsibility and community engagement beyond industrial excellence.

Organisers ensured adequate safety measures, medical facilities provided by Apollo Hospital, and traffic arrangements for smooth conduct. The festive atmosphere, marked by cheers from spectators and the energy of runners, added vibrancy to the SAIL Foundation Day celebrations.

The Rourkela Half Marathon 2026 not only celebrated fitness but also strengthened community spirit, reinforcing RSP’s role in shaping a healthier and more connected society.
