As the BJP-led government in Odisha marks 500 days in office, the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has launched a scathing critique of its performance, alleging that the administration has failed to deliver on key promises and has left the state grappling with stagnation and disillusionment.
In a strongly worded statement, the BJD accused the BJP of “governance paralysis,” pointing to stalled infrastructure projects, bureaucratic inefficiencies, and growing public dissatisfaction, particularly in rural and tribal regions. “The people of Odisha were promised transformation, but what they’ve received is inertia,” a senior BJD spokesperson said.
The BJD further alleged that flagship welfare schemes have either been diluted or delayed, and that the government’s communication with the public has been opaque and inconsistent. The party also criticised the BJP’s handling of state-centred coordination, claiming it has led to missed opportunities for federal support.
This political salvo comes at a time when both parties are gearing up for the upcoming elections, with the BJD positioning itself as a more experienced and people-centric alternative. The party emphasised its own track record in inclusive development, disaster management, and institutional transparency.
As the political temperature rises, the BJP is yet to issue a formal rebuttal. However, insiders suggest that a counter-narrative highlighting the government’s achievements in law and order, investment inflows, and digital governance may soon be released.
