This morning at 6:10 AM, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Bay of Bengal, with its epicenter near Puri, Odisha. The quake occurred at a depth of 91 kilometers beneath the sea surface.
Residents in several parts of Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, Puri, Paradip, Baripada, Sambalpur, Angul, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, and Balasore, reported feeling mild tremors.
The sudden shaking caused panic among locals, though there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The National Center for Seismology (NCS) confirmed the earthquake’s coordinates at latitude 19.52 N and longitude 88.55 E.
