Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Odisha Assembly that around 40 active Maoists are currently operating in small groups across six districts — Kalahandi, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh, Bolangir, and Bargarh.
Responding to an unstarred question from legislator Dhruba Charan Sahoo, the CM said Maoist presence has gradually declined in the state. He noted that in the last five years, security forces killed 48 Maoists, arrested 78, and secured the surrender of 82 cadres.
In 2025 alone, forces neutralised 25 Maoist cadres. The CM emphasised that the situation has improved significantly due to coordinated operations and support from the Centre.
Under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme, the Centre categorised Kandhamal as “Other LWE-affected district,” while eight districts — Malkangiri, Koraput, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Boudh, and Balangir — remain under the “Legacy and Thrust” category.
The CM assured the House that the government is working to resolve the Maoist problem by March 31, 2026, the timeline set by the Centre.
