Bhubaneswar: A total 1,554 of unnatural deaths were reported in Bhubaneswar out of which 277 were suicide cases till November 30, during this year, informed Commissionerate of Police on Monday.
According to the data shared by the Commissionerate of Police, the maximum number of UD cases were registered at Khandagiri police station – 246, out of which 68 were suicidal cases.
Similarly, 20 suicides were reported within the jurisdiction of Capital Police followed by 17 in Nayapalli and 15 each at Balipatna and Balianta police stations. Airport police and Tamando police reported a minimum 2 suicide cases over the last 11 months, Bhubaneswar urban police district stated.
More men committed suicide as compared to women during this year. The acts were a result of consuming poison – 77 men, 42 women, hanging self – 77 men, 42 women, and due to drowning – 19 men and 4 women, the police report revealed.
In the Khandagiri area of the city, 56 persons ended their lives by consuming poison, 14 by hanging, and 8 due to drowning.
“The investigation in 559 out of the total 1,554 UD cases has been completed. During the previous years, in 2020, total 396 UD cases were registered while 347 such cases in 2019,” the police report added.
