A dramatic rescue operation is underway in Malkangiri district after a youth was stranded in the middle of the Saberi River near Katameta village under Matapaka Panchayat.
The incident occurred nearly 24 hours ago when Irma Sodi, a local resident, attempted to cross the river in a traditional boat to reach Telawari village in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh.
While returning, the boat lost balance due to strong currents and capsized. Miraculously, Irma managed to grab onto a tree branch and later climbed onto a rock, where he remains stranded. Local residents alerted the fire department early this morning.
Firefighters from both Malkangiri and Sukma have been deployed to carry out the rescue. However, the strong river current has delayed operations, officials said. The administration has launched a full-scale rescue mission to bring Irma to safety.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating efforts to ensure a successful rescue.
