Two persons were killed and more than 60 were injured after a car rammed into a large crowd of revellers at a Christmas market in central Germany on Friday evening.
The driver involved in the incident was promptly arrested and later identified as Taleb A, a 50-year-old physician from Saudi Arabia. Taleb A arrived in Germany in 2006 and has been practicing medicine in a small town located 25 miles south of Magdeburg, according to officials. Authorities suspect that the incident was a purposeful attack.
During the attack, a black BMW accelerated into the crowd at the Christmas market, covering a distance of 400 meters toward the town hall, as reported by eyewitnesses to a German news outlet. Footage of the event surfaced on social media.
