An 18-year-old girl survived a deadly attack in Bongomunda, Bolangir district, on Friday evening, around 7 pm.
The girl had gone behind her house to light a fire for cooking when an unidentified man attacked her from behind. He struck her head with a glass bottle and attempted to slit her throat before fleeing. The victim could not identify the assailant.
Family members rushed her to Bongomunda hospital and later to Kantabanji hospital, where doctors provided primary treatment. Police reached the spot soon after and began an investigation.
Bongomunda police registered case number 21/2026 and confirmed that all angles are being probed. Station Officer Sanjib Pradhan stated that efforts are underway to trace the attacker.
