The Excise Department officials seized 18 litres of illicit liquor in the Kumbharapada area in Bolangir district and arrested a person in this connection.
The accused has been identified as Lingaraj Rana (25), of Ranimala village.
Acting on reliable information, the Excise Department officials from Tusura apprehended the accused for engaging in illegal liquor trading. The operation was conducted at the Kumbharapada Square, where authorities intercepted the accused and seized 18 liters of unauthorized country liquor from his motorcycle.
Under the direction of Tusura Excise Inspector Shrikant Panigrahi, the illicit liquor, along with the vehicle, was confiscated, and the accused was taken into custody. Subsequent to his arrest, the accused was forwarded to the Tusura Court for judicial proceedings. The case has been registered under Section 52(a) of the Odisha Excise Act, 2008, for violation of state excise laws.
The operation saw active participation from excise personnel, including ASI Prithviraj Kumar and Constables Bibhuti Bhushan Bhoi, Bhojaraj Badhei, and Suneli Pradhan. Their coordinated efforts ensured the success of the raid.
Investigations revealed that the accused has links to illicit liquor trading, and further inquiries are underway to identify other individuals involved in the network.
