In a significant blow to Maoist insurgency in India’s red corridor, 15 active Maoists carrying a collective bounty of Rs 48 lakh surrendered to security forces in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, on November 24, 2025.
The group, comprising hardcore members from the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Battalion-01, as well as Platoon Party Committee Members (PPCMs), Area Committee Members (ACMs), party cadres, and frontal group members, included 5 women and 10 men. Authorities have confirmed that declared rewards totalling Rs 47 lakh were placed on these individuals.
The surrender took place amid ongoing operations by security forces aimed at curbing left-wing extremism in the region. Officials stated that the Maoists turned themselves in voluntarily, citing disillusionment with the movement and the promise of rehabilitation under government schemes.
This event marks one of the larger group surrenders in recent months, potentially weakening the Maoist stronghold in Sukma, a district long plagued by Naxalite violence.
