The Odisha government has filed 100 legal cases against business owners who failed to display signboards in Odia.
Labour and ESI Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia shared the update in response to a question raised by MLA Prasanna Acharya during the Assembly session.
Out of 2,852 establishments inspected across the state, 1,606 were found to be in violation of the Odia signboard mandate. All violators received show-cause notices, and 100 of them now face formal legal proceedings under the Odisha Shops and Commercial Establishments Act.
Khordha district recorded the highest number of cases, with 38 businesses booked. Additionally, 237 establishments in Jharsuguda and 201 in Khordha were served notices for non-compliance.
The enforcement drive is part of the state’s broader initiative to preserve and promote the Odia language, ensuring its visibility in commercial and public domains.
