Bhubaneswar UPD Police have arrested a man who led a double life—posing as a YouTube preacher while moonlighting as a serial burglar.
The accused, identified as Manoj Kumar Singh (42), a resident of Khajuripada, Baideswar in Cuttack, was apprehended in connection with a theft reported under Bharatpur Police Station Case No. 462, dated August 14, 2025.
The complaint was filed by Subhashree Nayak, a bank employee residing with her husband, Debabrata Mohanty at Khandagiribari. The couple, married just three months ago, had left for work around 9:30 A.M. Upon returning at 2:30 P.M., Debabrata discovered the main door lock broken and the bedroom almirah ransacked. Approximately 300 grams of gold ornaments and ₹5 lakh in cash were stolen.
Police launched a swift investigation using human intelligence and technical surveillance. Singh, a habitual daytime burglar, was identified and arrested. He had used a two-wheeler (OD-13-W-1744) and an iron rod concealed in a bag to break into the house and execute the theft in under ten minutes.
Upon arrest, police recovered:
- 200 grams of gold ornaments
- ₹1,00,000 in cash
- The two-wheeler used in the crime
- The iron rod used for forced entry
Further investigation revealed Singh had mortgaged 82 grams of stolen gold at UNI Gold, Nayagarh, for ₹4.73 lakh.
Ironically, Singh ran a YouTube channel titled “Change Your Life,” where he preached morality and claimed to be reformed. His arrest exposes a disturbing contradiction between his digital persona and criminal reality.
Singh has a long history of theft, with over 10 cases registered against him across Nayapalli, Khandagiri, Chandrasekharpur, Tamando, and Nayagarh.
