A tragic accident claimed the life of a young man in Gaudagad under Biramaharajpur police limits of Subarnapur district.
A JCB struck him near a construction site, and the driver fled with the vehicle immediately after the incident.
The deceased, identified as 28-year-old Papun Bhukta, belonged to Adal village under Mrusundi Panchayat. He worked as a manager for a contractor overseeing road construction from Amarpali to Hariharjor. After finishing his duties, he returned to the camp when the accident occurred.
Witnesses reported that Papun stood near the camp when the JCB driver drove recklessly. The bucket of the machine hit him with force, causing severe injuries to his face. He died instantly at the spot. The impact shocked locals, who rushed to inform police authorities.
Soon after receiving the information, Hariharjor outpost officer Bibhudendra Baral reached the site. He sent the body to Biramaharajpur hospital and initiated further investigation. Police began searching for the driver, who escaped with the JCB from the scene.
The incident created tension in the area as residents demanded strict action against the driver and accountability from the contractor. The accident highlighted concerns about safety standards at construction sites and the need for better monitoring of heavy machinery operations.
