Koraput: A 23-year-old youth has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) by Jeypore Special Fast Track POCSO Court after convicting him guilty for raping a 15-year-old minor girl.
The convict has been identified as Bipin Suna and the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him. On failure to pay the fine, Suna has to undergo additional six months imprisonment, the court has ruled in its order.
Special Fast Track POCSO Court judge Pradip Kumar Sasmal pronounced the verdict after hearing the depositions of seven witnesses.
According to the case diary, convict Suna of Badaliguda under Koraput Town police station limits on February 10, 2019, had raped a 15-year-old minor girl at the Sukia Dangar hill while she had been to Koraput to buy a dress.
After the survivor revealed her ordeal to her parents, they had lodged a written complaint at the Koraput Town police station. Following the complaint, Koraput Town police arrested Suna and had forwarded him to the court.
Further, the court has ordered the District Legal Service Authority to provide financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to the victim.
