A speeding XUV700 lost control on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Bhimpura village on Friday morning and plunged into a ditch, killing five people.

The accident occurred around 7 am when the vehicle, registered as MHO3 EL 1388, travelled from Delhi toward Gujarat.

CCTV footage captured the moment the SUV veered off the expressway and smashed through the railing before falling near the Mahi River. As a result, the impact tore apart the front portion and roof of the vehicle. Moreover, parts of the bumper and number plate were scattered across the crash site.

Police confirmed that the victims belonged to Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The deceased included Ghulam Rasool (70), son of Ishaq Choudhary of Kurla, Mumbai; Khalis, son of Ghulam Rasool Choudhary of Vadodara; Abdul Ghulam, son of Danish Choudhary of Kurla, Mumbai; Danish (15), son of Usman Choudhary of Kurla, Mumbai; and Durgesh Prasad (35).

Local residents immediately rushed to assist police in retrieving the bodies from the mangled vehicle. Afterwards, authorities sent the remains to Dr Lakshmi Narayan Pandey Government Medical College in Ratlam for post-mortem examinations, which will take place once the families arrive.

The crash has raised serious concerns about speeding and safety on the newly built expressway. Consequently, the police initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Residents expressed shock at the severity of the collision and demanded stricter enforcement of traffic rules. Furthermore, officials assured that the probe will examine whether overspeeding, driver fatigue, or mechanical failure contributed to the tragedy.
