In a gripping match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the UP Warriorz (UPW) claimed a decisive 33-run victory over the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 8 of the TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025.

This win marked the first time in the season that a team successfully defended a target.

Chinelle Henry’s explosive batting performance was the highlight of the match. She scored a record-equalling half-century, hitting a spectacular 62 runs off just 23 balls, including eight sixes. Her innings helped UPW set a formidable target of 178 runs.

First win of the season with a hat-trick 😇@UPWarriorz are the first team to successfully defend a total in #TATAWPL 2025 🥳

The UPW bowling attack, led by Kranti Goud and Grace Harris, played a crucial role in securing the victory. Goud took four wickets for 25 runs, while Harris claimed four wickets for 15 runs, including the first hat-trick of the season.

Despite Jemimah Rodrigues’ valiant effort, scoring 56 runs off 35 balls for DC, the team was bowled out for 144 runs in 19.3 overs.

Earlier in the match, DC captain Meg Lanning won the toss and elected to field. DC’s bowlers initially tightened the screws on UPW’s scoring rate, but Henry’s powerful batting turned the tide. UPW’s total of 177/9 was a challenging target for DC to chase.

Kranti Goud’s exceptional bowling performance, which included the prized wickets of Lanning and Verma, ensured UPW’s dominance. Grace Harris capped off the night with her hat-trick, making her the third player to achieve this feat in the TATA WPL.

In the end, UPW emerged victorious, breaking the “chase and win” streak that had characterized the season so far. This win provides a significant boost to their campaign as they look to build momentum in the tournament.
