The Women’s Premier League 2025 mini-auction will take place in Bengaluru on Sunday. Five teams are looking to strengthen their squads for the third edition of the tournament one last time. However, only 19 slots are up for grabs, as the teams retained the majority of their players from last season.
In acquiring Deandra Dottin, one of only three players with a reserve price of Rs 50 lakh, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz engaged in fierce competition before the Adani Sportsline-owned franchise secured her for Rs 1.7 crore.
However, the more significant narrative of the auctions thus has been the transactions involving uncapped players like Simran, who was acquired by Gujarat Giants for 1. 9 crores after surpassing Delhi Capitals. Simran, previously with UP Warriorz for WPL 2023, was a member of the team that won the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy and of the E team that won the Challenger Trophy.
In acquiring the hard-hitting Kamalini, who scored 44 not out in India’s nine-wicket victory over Pakistan in the U19 Asia Cup match, Mumbai Indians invested Rs 1.6 crore following an intense bidding war with DC. MI had previously assessed Kamalini in their pre-auction trials.
