New Delhi: Today, October 15 is observed as World Students Day in India every year. World Students Day is celebrated in honour of former Indian President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who was often regarded as the “People’s President” during his tenure. World Students’ Day, despite the name, is only observed in India.
The theme for World Students’ Day 2022 is yet to be announced today. For 2021, the theme was ‘Learning for people, planet, prosperity, and peace.”
As mentioned before, World Students Day is celebrated in honour for Dr ABJ Abdul Kalam on his birth anniversary – October 15. Dr ABJ Abdul Kalam is often regarded of the People President and one of the greatest teachers of India.
His insightful lectures for students, achievements have been regarded as a source of inspiration for many. On World Students Day 2022, the importance of education and the importance to recognize the Fundamental Right to Education is reiterated.
World Students Day is a day which has not been officially declared by the United Nations. As per the calendar of the UN, October 15 is celebrated as the International Day of Rural Women. Officials from the United Nations have also confirmed that World Students’ Day on October 15 was not officially declared by the UN.
The world observes International Students’ Day on November 17 as a celebration of the multiculturalism of their students, particularly international students studying away from their homeland.
International Students’ Day has its origins from the holocaust. The day was originally commemorating the Czech universities which were stormed by Nazis in 1939 and in remembrance of the students who were killed and sent to concentration camps. Over the years, the day has been marked to observe the diversity amongst students.
