Jajpur: A woman was allegedly killed for protesting the sale of liquor at Barei village in Biripata panchayat under Mangalpur police limits in Jajpur district.
The deceased was identified as Laxmi Jena.
As per available reports, Laxmi was repeatedly protesting against the liquor business carried out by the accused Bijay Jena here.
Following her attempts, the business was shut down by the Police.
It is being suspected that, irate over the closure of the liquor business, Bijay launched a murderous attack on her following which she sustained grievous injuries.
Laxmi was rushed to Jajpur district headquarters hospital (DHH) in a critical condition and was later shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack.
However, she succumbed to her injuries late last night.
Following this, family members of the deceased lodged a police complaint based on which Bijay was arrested. Meanwhile, villagers are demanding the arrest of Bijay’s associates.
