Svitolina battles past Linette to reach second round
Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, seeded 21st, triumphed over Poland’s Magda Linette with scores of 7-5, 6-7 (9), 6-3 to progress to the second round of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Wednesday.
Ranked 21st in the world, Svitolina is set to face Germany’s Jule Niemeier in the next match for a place in the third round.
The match lasted two hours and 40 minutes, and Svitolina took a medical timeout towards the end of the third set.
