A tragic accident occurred in Odisha’s Nuapada district following sudden heavy rainfall that caused a wall to collapse at a construction site, resulting in the death of two individuals and injuries to a child.
The incident took place in Patakarapali village under Lakhana Police Station limits, where Dibakar Sabar was constructing a poultry farm with funds obtained through a government subsidy loan. On Sunday around 11 AM, while Dibakar’s wife Balmati Sabar (35), elder relative Rupe Sabar (61), and their 8-year-old daughter Ridhi Sabar had gone to inspect the under-construction poultry farm, a partially built wall collapsed due to the rain.
The wall collapse led to the tragic deaths of Balmati and Rupe, who were crushed under the debris. The child, Ridhi, sustained serious injuries and was immediately rescued and given first aid by the police.
According to sources, the continuous rain had weakened the structure, which could not withstand the pressure, leading to the accident. Upon hearing the news, a large crowd gathered at the scene. Lakhana police arrived promptly, rescued the injured child, and recovered the bodies of the two women with the help of local residents.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, while the community mourns the loss of two lives caused by nature’s sudden fury.
