In a bold move that reshapes Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, actor-turned-politician Vijay announced that his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), will contest the 2026 Assembly elections independently, without forming alliances with either the ruling DMK or the BJP.

Speaking at TVK’s second state conference in Madurai, Vijay addressed a massive crowd of supporters and declared, “There will be no alliance.” He labelled the BJP as TVK’s “only ideological enemy” and the DMK as its “only political enemy,” positioning his party as a direct challenger to the state’s dominant forces.

The event also paid homage to Tamil political icons CN Annadurai and MG Ramachandran, signalling TVK’s intent to align with the legacy of regional leadership. However, the rally wasn’t without incident—a 100-foot flagpole collapsed onto a parked car, drawing attention to crowd management and safety.

With this announcement, Vijay has set the stage for a high-stakes electoral showdown, promising a fresh alternative in Tamil Nadu’s political arena.
