Odisha Vigilance arrested Debasis Sahoo, Assistant Project Manager of the Odisha Water Supply & Sewerage Board (OWSSB), on Sunday after discovering unexplained disproportionate assets during a house search.
The authorities uncovered an astounding inventory: three multi-storey buildings, two commercial shops, two high-value plots in Jatni, approximately 200 grams of gold ornaments, Rs 1.57 lakh in cash, bank deposits exceeding Rs 56 lakh, and three two-wheelers. Sahoo failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the wealth, leading to his arrest.
This crackdown underscores the Odisha government’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption in public offices. Vigilance sources assert that stringent investigations into disproportionate asset cases will continue to protect taxpayers’ money and bolster governance standards.
