A joint US-Israel military operation, codenamed Epic Fury, has triggered a dangerous escalation in the Middle East. Explosions were reported across Iran after pre-emptive strikes, with President Donald Trump confirming a “major combat operation.”
Iran retaliated swiftly, targeting US bases in the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan. Explosions were heard in Dubai, while a drone strike hit Kuwait International Airport. Saudi Arabia claimed to have repelled an attack on Riyadh, and Jordan intercepted ballistic missiles.
Civilian life has been severely disrupted. Dubai International Airport suspended operations, while Indian carriers IndiGo and Air India canceled flights to the region until March 1. Indian nationals in Bahrain reported fear and uncertainty.
Global reactions have been swift. The UN Security Council scheduled an emergency meeting, with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemning both the strikes and Iran’s retaliation. Britain deployed forces to the Middle East, while Russia denounced the operation as “pre-planned aggression.”
Iran’s Foreign Minister denied reports of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s death, confirming he and President Masoud Pezeshkian are alive. President Trump emphasized that the operation aims to secure “freedom for the Iranian people.”
The crisis has placed the region on high alert, with international leaders urging restraint to prevent further escalation.
