New Delhi: The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said the UK strain of COVID is currently prevailing in north India.
But, the double mutant variant is active in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka, according to Sujeet Singh, director, NCDC. Singh told a press conference that the UK strain of coronavirus has dominated the northern states of Punjab and Delhi and is also found in Telangana, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
He further said that the Union Health Ministry has been informed about those variants which are of concern to coronavirus challenge in the country. The NCDC director urged the states to keep strict surveillance in the districts reporting new variants of concern. The district authorities must be alerted to tackle the situation arising out of the new variant, he added.
Worthwhile to mention that the country has been recording more than three lakh infections of coronavirus on a daily basis and witnessing over 3000 deaths daily.
