Two police officers were fatally shot and a third injured during a law enforcement operation in the small town of Porepunkah, located roughly 300 km east of Melbourne.
The officers were reportedly serving a warrant at a local property when the shooting occurred. Authorities have described the incident as ongoing and have urged residents to avoid the area.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese extended his condolences, acknowledging the daily risks faced by law enforcement personnel.
