Two convicted prisoners from Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar failed to return after parole, and jail authorities immediately filed a complaint with Laxmisagar police station. As a result, police launched a manhunt to trace the duo.
According to reports, both inmates received leave under existing parole provisions. However, they did not return after the sanctioned period expired. The absconding convicts are Susil Digal, serving a life sentence in a murder case, and Ranjit Nayak, convicted in a rape case and sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.
Initially, Digal complied with parole rules and returned after multiple furlough leaves. Nevertheless, he failed to report back after going on leave in 2024. Even after more than a year, authorities still have no information about his whereabouts.
Meanwhile, Nayak went on furlough leave on October 1 and was expected to return by the end of the month. However, he remained absent for over two months, which compelled jail officials to file another complaint with the Laxmisagar police station.
Consequently, police intensified efforts to locate both convicts. Moreover, the incident raised concerns about monitoring parolees and ensuring accountability in the prison system.
