Transportation between Bhawanipatna and Khariar has been severely disrupted due to structural damage to the Turkel Bridge built over the Tel River.
A one-foot depression has formed on the bridge deck, exposing iron rods and cracked concrete, raising serious safety concerns for commuters.
Officials have warned that the bridge is currently unsafe for heavy vehicles, and any further pressure could lead to a catastrophic collapse. In response, authorities have requested that all heavy vehicles coming from Raipur, Nabarangpur, and Dharmagarh be diverted via the Biju Expressway as an alternative route.
The damage is clearly visible from the bridge’s edge, where the concrete has broken away, revealing the internal steel framework. The situation has prompted urgent calls for repair and reinforcement, as well as increased focus on alternative road connectivity to ensure uninterrupted travel.
Local commuters and transport operators are advised to avoid the Turkel Bridge until further notice and follow official traffic advisories. The administration is expected to issue updates as the inspection and repair process progresses.
