Panic gripped Sanajob village under Brajrajnagar Municipality on Saturday morning when a trailer (OD-23-9638) rammed into an electric pole around 10 am.
The collision snapped wires and damaged poles along the village road, narrowly sparing pedestrians from a major accident.
Villagers said they had repeatedly complained to the Brajrajnagar Municipality, Truck Owners’ Association, and local administration about heavy vehicles passing through the narrow village road at high speed, especially during school hours. They warned that students and residents faced constant risk, but no effective action was taken.
Residents further alleged that truck owners often threatened villagers who tried to stop the vehicles from using the road.
Following Saturday’s incident, Executive Officer Chandra Mani Swain of Brajrajnagar Municipality visited the site and assured that the matter would be raised with the District Transport Officer during the upcoming grievance hearing. He promised that necessary action would be taken.
However, villagers expressed anger, claiming that earlier grievance hearings had also drawn the attention of the District Collector, yet no solution emerged. They accused the administration of remaining indifferent and described the grievance hearings as a “mere formality.”
