In a tragic incident on February 21, 2025, eleven Class 10 students sustained injuries when the SUV transporting them to their matriculation examination center overturned near Krushna Nagar Chhak in Kendrapara district, Odisha.
The accident occurred after the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a cyclist, identified as Subrat Mandal, who was killed instantly. One of the injured students is reported to be in critical condition.
The students, from Vivekananda High School in Baghamari, were on their way to Naga Narayan High School in Khamara Sahi for their examination. Following the accident, all injured students were admitted to Talchua Hospital for treatment.
This incident coincides with the commencement of the Odisha Class 10 board examinations, which began on February 21 and are scheduled to conclude on March 6, 2025. Over 5.22 lakh students are appearing for the exams across 3,133 centers statewide.
In response to the accident, local authorities are expected to review transportation arrangements for students to prevent such tragedies in the future.
