TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and Government of Odisha, is prepared to meet the rising electricity demand as temperatures soar in the summer of 2025.

With an anticipated peak demand of 2524 MW, TPCODL has undertaken a series of proactive measures to ensure uninterrupted power supply and enhanced reliability.

To strengthen its power distribution capabilities, TPCODL has established a Centralised Power Distribution Technology Centre in Bhubaneswar.

This advanced facility enables real-time monitoring of the network through Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), ensuring seamless operation of 33kV feeders, primary substations (PSS) and 11kV feeders.

Backup power provisions and dedicated communication channels at the Power System Control Centre (PSCC) further reinforce operational continuity.

As part of its summer preparedness initiative, TPCODL has:

  • Added 181 MVA capacity to the distribution Network by augmentation & addition of new Distribution Transformers.
  • Expanded the network with 55 CKM of sub-transmission lines, 1126 CKM of 11kV lines and 383 CKM of LT network.
  • Improved voltage stability by augmenting 33kV and 11kV feeders and operationalization of On-Load Tap Changers (OLTCs).
  • In City areas, Hot stand by source has been ensured at PSS for changeover in case of main source breakdown within 5 mins with 98% success rate.
  • Implemented SCADA-based overload trimming to prevent grid feeder trips.
  • Contingency Plan Readiness: With the institutionalization of CPSCC for 33kV Operations of all PSS of TPCODL, contingency have been made ready for situational changeovers during overloading condition for better load management ensuring zero load curtailment

For enhanced customer service and outage management, TPCODL has:

  • Expanded outreach by providing multi-language outage updates via social media.
  • Upgraded call center operations, increasing agent availability during peak hours.
  • Strengthened Fuse Call Centres (FCCs) through the FCC 2.0 mobile application for faster response to power issues.
  • The company has deployed more than 9000 dedicated personnel to promptly address outages and implemented measures such as SMS alerts and call-back options during peak hours.
  • Bolstered safety measures, including refurbishment of distribution substations and proactive maintenance of primary feeders.

In preparation for Kalabaisakhi storms, TPCODL has:

  • Deployed additional manpower and vehicles for emergency response.
  • Kept 13 Mobile Distribution Substations on standby.
  • Stocked emergency materials at 20 divisional stores for quick restoration.
  • Activated feeder-wise contingency plans for better load management.
