Odisha Vigilance officials apprehended Tusharkant Ray, Executive Engineer (Quality), Circle-I of TPCODL, Bhubaneswar, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from an electrical contractor.
The bribe was reportedly demanded in exchange for furnishing a final inspection report required for the supply of electricity to a newly installed transformer at an apartment building.
According to sources, the complainant had been requesting the inspection report for over two months to facilitate payment against his bill. However, the accused engineer allegedly insisted on a bribe to process the report. Left with no alternative, the contractor approached Vigilance authorities, leading to a trap being laid.
The accused reportedly summoned the complainant to his residence and later took him to a nearby park, where he accepted the cash. Vigilance officers, who had been monitoring the exchange, immediately intervened and recovered the tainted money from Ray’s possession.
Following the successful trap, simultaneous searches were conducted at three locations linked to the accused. During these raids, which continued into the early hours, officials unearthed and seized unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 9.53 lakh from Ray’s residence.
A case has been registered under Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No. 21 dated 24.09.2025, U/s 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is underway.
