Temperatures Surge Beyond 38°C Across Odisha, Boudh Sizzles at 40.5°C

Odisha's Coastal Regions Hit by Heatwave

Odisha experienced extreme temperatures on Wednesday, with the mercury soaring above 38°C in 12 locations.


The highest temperature recorded was in Boudh, which hit a scorching 40.5°C. Bolangir followed with 39.9°C, while Titlagarh and Jharsuguda recorded 39.5°C and 39.4°C, respectively.

Sundargarh reported 39.4°C, Sambalpur 39.3°C, and Baripada 39°C, Sonepur 38.9°C, Bhadrak 38.8°C, Hirakud 38.7°C, and both Rourkela and Bhawanipatna 38.4°C.

This sudden temperature rise is a stark reminder of the scorching summer ahead and highlights the urgent need for precautionary measures to cope with the heat.

Coastal Odisha Experiences Record-High Temperatures

Also, for the first time this year, the coastal regions of Odisha have witnessed a surge in temperatures surpassing 38 degrees Celsius. Bhadrak recorded the highest temperature at a scorching 38.8°C today. Following closely, Paralakhemundi registered a temperature of 38°C.

The major temperature recordings across coastal Odisha are as follows:

  • Bhadrak: 38.8°C
  • Paralakhemundi: 38°C
  • Chandbali: 37.6°C
  • Cuttack: 37°C
  • Bhubaneshwar: 36.6°C

Meteorologists are closely monitoring this heatwave and advising residents to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak hours.

To cope with the heat, here are a few tips:

  1. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  2. Avoid Outdoor Activities: Try to stay indoors during peak hours (11 AM to 4 PM).
  3. Wear Light Clothing: Opt for loose, light-colored clothing to stay cool.
  4. Use Fans and Air Conditioning: Keep your living space cool with fans or air conditioning.
  5. Apply Sunscreen: Protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
