Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has accused Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha of possessing two separate Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers registered in different assembly constituencies—Bankipur and Lakhisarai.
The allegation comes amid the Opposition’s criticism of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls ahead of the state assembly elections.
During a press conference on Sunday, Yadav claimed that details of both voter IDs could be verified on the Election Commission’s website, with discrepancies in Sinha’s age listed—57 on one record and 60 on another. He alleged that the matter pointed to either a flaw in the Election Commission’s SIR process or deliberate fraud by the deputy CM.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Yadav posted both EPIC numbers, serial numbers, and section details, further alleging that Sinha could potentially vote in two different constituencies during separate phases of elections. He also suggested that either Sinha personally signed two enumeration forms or the Election Commission created duplicate entries with forged signatures.
In response, Vijay Sinha refuted the allegations, stating he has applied to remove his name from the Lakhisarai constituency after shifting voter registration there from Patna in April 2024. He said his deletion request was rejected but maintained that he votes in only one constituency—Lakhisarai.
Sinha criticized Yadav for using what he called “unparliamentary language” and accused him of tarnishing political discourse. “The whole of Bihar and the country know that the prince of Jungle Raj plays the game of tarnishing others. He should apologise for such false claims,” Sinha said.
This is the second major voter roll-related allegation by Yadav in recent days. Earlier, he claimed his own name was missing from the draft electoral roll, but the Election Commission countered with documentary proof of his registration.
The controversy comes against the backdrop of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent accusations of large-scale voter fraud and alleged collusion between the Election Commission and the BJP.
