Berhampur: In the latest development in the Tapaswini-Sumit marital discord, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has sought report from Baidyanathpur Police regarding the action taken in connection with the barging of some women into Sumit’s house on December 20.
The OHRC’s intervention came on the basis of a petition filed by Sumit’s father, Pramod Kumar Sahu and another person, yet to be identified, with the commission.
There is a matrimonial dispute between the son of the petitioner and his wife for which proceedings are pending before the competent courts. Such matrimonial dispute has taken such ugly turn where the petitioners are allegedly under wrongful confinement and subjected to criminal intimidation and insult inside their own house,” stated the Commission in its order.
“The Commission is not concerned about the matrimonial dispute. The only concern is about the alleged wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation to the senior citizens like the petitioners and the police inaction on the complaint lodged before it,” read the OHRC order.
“During pendency of the proceeding and submission of the reports, the IIC, B.N.Pur Police Station, Berhampur is hereby called upon to ensure that the rights of the senior citizens are not infringed in any manner and they are not subjected to any kind of intimidation,” added the State human rights body.
