Berhampur: While Berhampur Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate directed a distressed couple, Tapaswini and Sumit, to stay together in a rented house, the man has reportedly disappeared from the rented accommodation.
Tapaswini alleged that her husband Sumit has left home and has not returned. “He has been trying to abandon me since we stayed together. He left the house on the pretext of duty and did not return since. I have been trying to contact him but not been able to do so,” she alleged.
The court had directed the duo to live together at a rented house for seven days. Hearing the matter yesterday, the court asked the two to continue staying together. It directed Sumit to pay the rent of the accommodation and bear his wife’s food and other expenses.
The couple had been staying at a guest house of Aska Sugar Mill. A police team was also deployed at the guest house, as per the court’s direction.
Tapaswini, who hails from Chhatrapur in the district, had initially staged a dharna in front of Sumit’s house at Brahmanagar here. She claimed that Sumit married her in court on September 7, 2020, following which she stayed at Sumit’s residence as his wife for six months.
Later, Sumit’s parents asked Tapaswini to go to her house and stay there till the marriage was not solemnized as per traditional rituals. Though she went to her house, family members of Sumit didn’t fix a proper date for the wedding, she alleged.
She subsequently sought the help of social worker Pramila Tripathy and staged a sit-in in front of Sumit’s house in bridal attire demanding justice for her.
