The central government has extended the tenure of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director Tapan Kumar Deka by one year, ensuring continued leadership at India’s premier intelligence agency.
The decision was confirmed in an official statement released on Tuesday by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions. According to the notification, Deka’s tenure will now continue beyond June 30, 2025, unless further orders are issued.
Deka, a 1988-batch IPS officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, has played a crucial role in intelligence operations and national security measures. His leadership has been instrumental in handling emerging threats and strengthening the agency’s strategic framework.
The move is seen as a step toward maintaining stability within the IB as it navigates evolving security challenges. Experts believe that the government’s decision underscores the significance of intelligence continuity in safeguarding the nation’s interests.
